Restaurant Introduction

Nestled on Duddell Street in Central, A Lux is an exquisite fine-dining Contemporary Japanese European restaurant. The cuisine features the freshest seasonal Japanese ingredients, fused with modern European cooking techniques and infused with the spirit of “shun” (seasonality), presenting dishes that embody both Japanese delicacy and European elegance in perfect harmony.

Every supplier is personally selected by Group Executive Chef Leung, ensuring the same premium seafood quality as the group’s flagship sushi restaurant, Sushi Rin. Each dish is a true East–West creation, preserving the purity and refinement of Japanese cuisine while showcasing the modern sophistication of European gastronomy.

The name A Lux also carries symbolic meaning. Duddell Street is famous for its historic gas lamps, representing warmth and light. “A Lux” derives from the Latin word for “a light,” paying tribute to this heritage while aspiring to become a beacon that guides diners on a journey of Japanese–European fusion cuisine.

Inspired by the glow of gaslight, the restaurant’s interior blends vintage elegance with modern minimalism, creating a romantic atmosphere that transcends time. Guests are transported between history and the present, experiencing a unique interplay of cultural depth and contemporary aesthetics.

Chef Introduction

Over the years, A Lux has specialized in traditional-flavored modern European cuisine—signature dishes such as pressed French duck, lobster bisque, French-style roasted suckling pig, and house-made pasta have long defined our kitchen. Since 2025, we have embraced the spirit of shun (seasonality), introducing the philosophy and craftsmanship of Japanese cuisine to our table. Group Executive Chef Leung personally selects the seafood and seasonal ingredients from Japan, overseeing and guiding key techniques such as dashi preparation, sashimi handling, and charcoal grilling. Meanwhile, Chef Peter, with over a decade of European culinary experience, refines each creation with delicate plating artistry—blending the clarity and purity of Japanese flavors with the fire-driven aesthetics of European cuisine. This forms the distinctive A Lux identity: “Japanese Essence × European Technique.”

Classic European dishes will return seasonally as special highlights, while our handcrafted pasta remains a signature specialty we take pride in. Chef Peter, a graduate of the VTC Culinary Academy, has trained at Harlan’s, Rustico (under Juanjo Carrillo), The Principal, and Pano (under Ken Lau). His expertise lies in striking a subtle balance between “authentic flavor” and “culinary aesthetics.”

Our vision is to bring Hong Kong gourmets a contemporary dining experience that feels both familiar and refreshingly new—through purer flavors and more precise techniques.
